"My religion is kindness" - The Dalai Lama

"The source of a true smile is an awakened mind."  -  Thich Nat Hanh

Mindfulness meditation does not require any religious beliefs.  By examining our lived experience mindfully we gradually begin to see for ourselves how our happiness is interdependent with others, and we gain in understanding, patience and love. This might be called a kind of secular spirituality.

At the same time,  if a person belongs to belief community, he or she will find that mindfulness meditation complements the spiritual path they are on, deepening and broadening their understanding and appreciation of their spirituality.
